BOSTON UPK TEACHER

The Teacher participates in the planning and implementation of a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate program experience for the children in theircare and assessing children’s progress in all areas of development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times.Model the CCAB mission statement.
  • Contribute to children’s learning, growth, and overall development.
  • Understand and maintain a positive mindset towards child’s learning and social-emotional development.
  • Responsive to the needs of young children and invests in the well-being, health and safety of young children.
  • Actively supervisechildren to ensure safety both indoors and out correcting hazards where possible and alerting supervisor to any other concerns.
  • Document and communicate to the Director of Childcare Servicesobserved situations and behaviors of concern.
  • Conduct on-going observation and assessment of children’s progress using the technology providedMaintain children’s portfolio for teacher/parent conferences.
  • Follow health, safety, and housekeeping procedures whilemaintainingacomforting and inviting classroom environment.
  • Provide child guidance and behavior management according to the center’s policies and procedures.
  • Participate in age-appropriatecurriculum planning, implementation, reflection, and evaluation.
  • Participate in preparation of curriculum materials.
  • Participate/attend monthly staff meetings/workshops/ and all required BPS trainings.
  • Document dailyattendance, food program participation. Prepare accident and injury reports in accordance with EEC and DESE regulations, report timely to the Director. 
  • Build respectful and professional relationshipswith parents, children, and colleagues.
  • Assureprogramming meets the needs of the individual child and is responsive to the cultural and socio-economical background of children and families.
  • Follow through with all directivesand assigned tasks and projects in a professional and positive manner, respecting supervision and constructive criticism.
  • Meet EEC requirements for professional development hours completed each year, enter them in the PQ Registryunder theappropriate Core Competency.
  • Plan for own professional development (IPDP), staying current in the field by attendance at workshops and conferences, reading relevant literature, and/or taking courses leading to a certificate or a degree.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work with colleagues as a team player and contributing member.
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical conduct and professional responsibility, including confidentiality to children, families, colleagues, the community and Catholic Charities. 
  • Ability to accomplish the job including evacuating the building, with or without corrective devices and accommodations, including the ability to read and write, to hear the conversational voice, to speak and be understood, and the ability to carry,assist and aide children in the age groupassigned.
  • Work is performed in a classroom and outdoor environment with children. Will require kneeling, standing, walking and sitting inside and outside of the building for outside play, walks and other activities.
  • Attendance atinternal and external meetings and training which may include early and later hours than scheduled to ensure classroom coverage.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EEC teacher certification with a combination of education and experience as follows:BA in early childhood and months’work experienceBA in related field and 2 early childhood courses, AA in early childhood and 1 year experience working in a preschool classroom.
  • Motivated, energetic, punctual and responsible. Exhibit a positive attitude to be an excellent role model for children and coworkers. 
  • Ability to teach and interact with parents, employees and co-workers. 
  • Pass background record check (CORI/SORI/DCF) and fingerprinting.
  • Positive attitude towards working with children.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Zoom 
  • Ability to work early and late varied hours for classroom coverage.
